Dhatu comprises seven supportive elements or tissues. They are:
Rasa or the lymph/chyle.
Rakta or the haemoglobin fraction of blood.
Mamsa or muscle tissue.
Medas or fat tissue.
Asthi or bone tissue.
Majja or bone tissue.
Sukra or the sperm in male and ovum in female.
EFFECTS OF VITIATED DHATUS
When different dhatus are affected, the symptoms are varied. Here is a description of the symptoms.
Rosa dhatu (vitiated)
Anorexia, bad taste in the mouth, nausea, heaviness, drowsiness, body ache, unconsciousness, change of complexion and gradual wasting of other dhatus. Aging starts earlier, with wrinkles and grey hair, and gradual wasting of body.
Rakta dhatu (vitiated)
Skin disease, pimples, haemorrhage through different channels of the body, enlargement of the spleen, abdominal pain, excessive black moles, ringworm, other skin diseases such as leucoderma, scabies, rashes, etc.
Mamsa dhatu (vitiated)
Additional growth of unwanted muscular tissue in the form of granuloma, tumour, warts, tonsillitis, gangrene, skin diseases, goitre, etc.
Medas dhatu (vitiated)
Matted hair and dandruff, sweet taste in the mouth, buring sensation in hands and feet, dryness of mouth, palate and throat. It also leads to thirst, feeling of laziness, excretion of excessive sweat and other waste products, and numbness of the body.
Asthi dhatu (vitiated)
Increase in the size of bones (hypertrophy of bone), hypertrophy of teeth, fragile bones, pain in bones, change of complexion, faulty growth of hair and different diseases of hair and deformities of nails.
Majja dhatu (vitiated)
Pain in finger joints, giddiness, fainting spells, deep-rooted abscess in the joints of fingers.
Sukra dhatu (vitiated)
Sterility, impotency, genetic deformity, Imblalance in parents could cause disease in children.
